| March 16, 2010. Today our feature recipe is a Thai fried chicken that's cooked twice, to make the cooked chicken nice and "dry". Eaten with sweet chili sauce, the flavor is fantastic. We also have "Buy One Get Two Free" on our artisan Thai curry paste, and other features including a new street vendor video. Thanks for visiting ImportFood.com! |

Feature Ingredient: Sweet Chilli Sauce For Chicken, Mae Ploy brand
This distinctive, slightly sweet chili sauce was developed in Thailand specifically as a dip for the same type of chicken we feature in our recipe above. It's a fairly thick sauce, and if you've ever purchased barbeque chicken from a street vendor in Thailand, it was undoubtedly served with this sauce. Ingredients: palm sugar, red chili, vinegar, garlic, salt, water. No preservatives and no artificial coloring. Product of Thailand.
Thai sweet chile sauce isn't just for Thai food either, it's become popular among all types of food, served in every type of restaurant. You might find this of interest: Mrs Robert F Kennedy (Ethel Kennedy) is a repeat customer of ImportFood.com, purchasing this sauce in the 10 oz bottle. We emailed her asking for a personal endorsement, and she promptly responded with "Mrs Kennedy Loves This Sauce." If it satisfies the refined taste of Mrs Kennedy you too might like our Mae Ploy sweet chile sauce.
For just a few days we'll offer it here for only $1.50. |

Ready-made Massaman, Aroy-D
We introduced Aroy-D red curry a few weeks ago, followed by Tom Yum, and customers have told us how much they like both. Now we have the same in Massaman flavor.
Each can of massaman soup has everything you need to enjoy an authentic Thai meal, including potato. It's simply "heat and serve" but there are instructions on the can. Add chicken (or beef) if you prefer, during the cooking process. Cook and serve with jasmine rice.
See our recipe for massaman chicken, made from scratch.
Ingredients: coconut milk, potato, chopped onion, chilli oil, massaman curry paste (shallot, dried red chilli, garlic, lemongrass, salt, galangal, coriander seed, cumin powder), sugar, water, soybean oil, peanut, cardamom, nutmeg, clove, citric acid as acidity regulator. No preservatives. Product of Thailand. |

BACK IN STOCK Straw Mushrooms, Grown in Taiwan
Straw mushrooms are thick and hearty, among our favorite to eat with Thai food. They go well with Thai soups such as tom yum and tom kha. These are so hearty that they can be a good substitute for meat, so vegetarians will love them.
The very best straw mushrooms are grown in Taiwan. In 2008, adverse weather caused a severe shortage of straw mushrooms from Taiwan, so most importers switched to an inferior quality canned straw mushroom from Vietnam. Many of our customers have asked if/when we'd ever offer these again. We've just now received a new shipment of new crop canned straw mushrooms from Taiwan, and quality is excellent.
Net weight 15 oz, dry weight 7.4 oz. Ingredients: straw mushrooms, water and salt. Product of Taiwan. In each can you get about 40 straw mushrooms.

Just Harvested: Fresh Thai Eggplant
Various kinds of eggplant ("makua") grow in Thailand. We just received a fresh shipment of "makua pot" variety. Grown in California, each eggplant is about the size of a golf ball, see photographs at left. These are perhaps the most common eggplants found in Thai markets, and very tasty.
Remove the top, and slice into wedges, then cook with red or green Thai curry for excellent results. We recommend putting them in a dish of water after slicing, until just before adding to your curry (they will turn brown in the open air, after being sliced).
Not just cooked with Thai curry, this eggplant is also enjoyed fresh. Dip fresh wedges into namprik kapi sauce for a very authentic Thai treat.

RECIPE CONTEST:
Win a Pansonic Rice Cooker. Just Use Kaffir Lime Leaf Powder
Anyone familiar with Thai cooking knows that kaffir lime is an essential ingredient in so many recipes. We've offered fresh kaffir lime leaves for years, and now for the first time we can offer kaffir lime leaf powder. This is fresh harvest, just picked and dried a few weeks ago. The powder retains all of the aroma and flavor of the fresh leaves.
We discovered that kaffir lime leaf powder adds wonderful flavor to all sorts of non-Thai recipes, such as bread, pasta, meatballs, it's even a very popular way of flavoring vodka.
Order a package of this powder now, develop a recipe using it, then send us the recipe via email (whatever it is, however big or small). Next month we'll draw one name at random and send that person a free Panasonic rice cooker.
This contest is a few weeks old and we've only received 5 recipes, so your chance to win the rice cooker is good. Lots of people have ordered the lime leaf powder. Please email us by March 31st. Product of USA.
