Mother's Day Thai Herbal Bath / Body Cleanse
A variation of the traditional Thai steam therapy, our herbal bath uses the healing properties of Thai herbs to revitalise the mind and cleanse the entire body. This was developed at the Banyan Tree resort in Phuket, it's very easy to make.
Start with a muslin cloth bag (our Thai tea filter works great, as shown). Place inside about 6 chunks of dried galangal, a small handful of dried lemongrass, 1 teaspoon kafir lime leaf powder, 1 teaspoon ginger powder, then add about 10 drops of the splendidly-aromatic pandan paste which also gives the water a tropical sea-green color. Tie it with a cotton string. Place the herbal pack under running water and fill your tub. Shower and scrub your skin before stepping into the bath, then soak for 10-15 minutes. Enjoy the aromatic bath, and the way your skin feels afterward.

Thai Dessert is a lavish step-by-step cookbook, providing at least 5 inset pictures of each recipe as it's being prepared, with very detailed instructions. Thai desserts are not often made at homes in Thailand, as specialty vendors sell them in shops. Not surprisingly, this is the only authentic book we've found on Thai desserts, and it's a very good one indeed.
Thai desserts are made basically from rice flour, sugar, coconut milk, fruits & vegetables and, to a lesser extent, eggs. The selected recipes are simple and delicious. Thick glossy paperback cover, a very high quality full-sized cookbook 7.5" x 10.5".

Solid Brass Wok, Handmade
We are pleased to offer this beautiful, rustic, solid brass wok which has been entirely pounded and shaped by hand. Used to make Thai desserts. We have two sizes available--small and large. Aside from being functional, style magazines have shown small brass woks from Thailand as popular among the Hollywood crowd as party decorations for flower display, tablewear, and whatever the fancy jetset these days might desire. This is a beautiful conversation piece. The handles are handshaped and attached to the wok using brass rivets.
The solid brass wok is commonly used in Thai cooking for preparation of various desserts (see three favorites below). Using a brass wok has certain advantages when cooking sweets. Brass heats evenly, so syrups and candies can be prepared without scorching. Without proper care, it will oxidize & discolor, so traditionally brass woks are rubbed with a bit of tamarind paste which cleans and shines the soft metal, yet won't scratch. Then rinsed with water. More modern cooks can use half a lime or lemon to clean their brass wok, then rinse it in soapy water. Avoid salt or other abrasives which can scratch the soft metal.

NEW: Satay Sauce, Ayam Brand (From Malaysia)
We enjoyed this mild satay sauce. It's very simple to make, all natural, and rich in flavor. From Malaysia, where satay originated, Ayam Brand has been making this since 1892. Packaged in a modern can with pull top as shown.
We followed the instructions on the can, with excellent results. Just weave chicken strips onto skewers. Add peppers and onions if you prefer. Brush chicken and vegetables with a combination of sesame oil, lime juice, and light soy sauce. Grill until done. Meanwhile, combine satay mix with 1 cup of coconut milk, and heat over medium heat until reduced and slightly thickened. Serve skewers on a bed of jasmine rice and spoon over sauce.
Ingredients: water, peanuts, lemongrass, sugar, palm oil, candlenuts, coconut cream powder, corriander powder, garlic, tamarind, onion powder, ginger, salt, galangal, chilli powder, curry powder. |

Fresh Mangosteen / Almost Here
As we enter the peak harvest season in Thailand (May/June) we are now waiting for the right quality. The season is off to a slow start, with fruit not quite ready for export. We require fruit with good size and perfect ripeness, and we're not quite there yet. Last year we started the last week of April, but this year it might be mid-May before we have suitable quality.
The fruit chosen from export is clean, fresh and premium in every respect. We'll ship to you via expedited (2nd Day Air). We'll ship 2 lbs of fruit in a small net sack, approximately 12 fruit.
