Thai Coconut Sugar: Back in Stock!
In Thai recipes as well as recipes throughout Southeast Asia, both palm sugar (which comes from the sugar palm) and coconut sugar (made from the coconut palm) is used as a natural sweetener. Both are fairly similar in taste and appearance, although some cooks prefer coconut sugar for certain recipes. Coconut sugar is softer, and it is a pure sugar unlike palm sugar which has a bit of refined sugar added to make it firm.
Our coconut sugar is very fresh, fairly soft and adds wonderful flavor in cooking. It can also be enjoyed as a natural candy. Packed as a round "cake" (see pictures). The sugar dissolves quickly as you cook with it. Use with curries, gourmet dishes, sauces, and various desserts. Below are just some examples from our recipe index that use palm sugar or coconut sugar. For a different twist try using coconut sugar. Ours is the highest quality from Hand Brand, the manufacturer of our gourmet curry paste and other spices. Product of Thailand. See more here. |

Fresh Mangosteen / Best Quality And Lowest Price Ever
We've been shipping fresh mangosteen for about eight weeks this season, and quality continues to improve. Today we received a shipment from Thailand, and the fruit is large, fresh, soft and just perfect.
The fruit was picked, cooled, and shipped direct via airplane from Thailand all within a few days. This mangosteen could not be fresher. It might be a nice Father's Day gift for someone who enjoys a special new taste of delicate fruit.
This offer is for shipping immediately (Wed June 17) for arrival by Fri June 19. Order by 8:00 PM PST Wednesday and you will get it Friday. Price already includes expedited shipping. This is a very good deal.
We are now offering this for $15-$25 less than our offer price of a few weeks ago, due to lower market price. It is expensive, but a great deal considering that it's fresh mangosteen. You get 2 lbs of fruit in a small net sack, approximately 12 mangosteen.
Fresh mangosteen should be kept in the fridge, and consumed within 1 week after you get it. On the outside box it states "irradiated fruit" and we understand that the USDA (plus agencies in other countries) approved this method of treatment in order to protect the environment.
We will upgrade to USPS Priority 2 Day with no added charge.
SPECIAL: For each order placed you will receive one free fruit knife (shown below) as a token of appreciation from us.

NEW: Tamarind Cutting Board / Combine with Mortar and Pestle for Great Savings. Here is the best cutting board you'll likely find anywhere, and you can surprise dad with great combination. A solid block of end-grain exotic hardwood from a tamarind tree. Tamarind wood is well-known in Thailand as the very best for cutting boards, used to make all Thai recipes. This round slice from the center of a tamarind tree is about 10" in diameter and an impressive 3" thick. The wood is extremely dense, so dense that even 40 grit sandpaper on an industrial belt sander will hardly reduce it, yet gentle on your knife. With end grain wood, especially from the tamarind tree, your knife will stay sharp a lot longer because as it hits the board the grains are straight (like a super-tight brush) rather than sideways. You will find Thai tamarind cutting boards only at ImportFood.com.
What makes this cutting board so special? Typically, cutting boards use flat planks of cross-cut wood, which makes your knife blade go dull quickly. End-grain wood is superior, and end-grain butcher blocks sell for a high price but those are made of little blocks glued together. For generations in Thailand, cooks have always used the wood of solid tamarind tree because it's the perfect material. Indeed, customers have noted from our street vendor photo and our street vendor video series that all chefs are using the same style of cutting board. Convenient size makes it easy to move around, easy to clean (soap and water, the occasional wipe with vinegar). We are happy to introduce this to you. More info here. |
