NEW: CookDo Mabo Tofu Sauce from Ajinomoto
Ajinomoto is a large Japanese company that has been in business for 100 years. They produce several tasty packaged sauce mixes, and we like "Mabo Tofu". There are two packets inside, and clear instructions on how to make it. The result tastes like it was made in a Chinese restaurant, with a Japanese style to it also. All you need is ground beef or pork, and a package of tofu. One package makes three large servings.

Offered in both Mild Hot and Medium Hot flavors, neither of which are very hot especially compared to Thai food.

Ingredients: Water, Soy Sauce(water, soybean, wheat, salt), Sugar, Oyster Broth, Sesame Oil, Chili Paste(water, soybean, salt, red pepper), Potato Starch, Soybean Oil, Sake, Ginger, Garlic, Pork Extract, Salt, Chicken Extract, Monosodium Glutamate, Chicken Fat, Xanthan Gum, Caramel, Paprika, Fermented Wheat Protein. Product of Japan.

NEW: Durian Chips, J & J
Durian is known as the "King of Fruits" and the best quality is grown in Thailand. We're pleased to offer you these new, all natural chips made of pure durian. The durian used is the Mon Thong (golden pillow) variety, considered to have the most delicious flavor.

Packed in a modern foil bag, this is new arrival fresh pack. Firm, crisp durian chips are not just an interesting novelty snack--the unique taste is habit-forming. Durian is a large fruit with a thick outer skin, and growing them requires a lot of water for irrigation. In Thailand this fruit is expensive. $4.89 might seem like a high price for these chips, but that is near to our cost, and it's a 3.5 oz package which is a generous amount (shown below on our large ceramic platter).

Ingredients: Durian (98%), palm oil, salt. Product of Thailand.

Back in Stock: Jasmine Essence, 2 oz
We had been out of jasmine essence for a few months, and just received a new shipment. This is an important ingredient in some Thai dessert recipes such as khao neeo moon.

2 oz is a generous size and will last for a very long time, as it usually only takes a few drops. Jasmine is known in Thai as mali. This fragrant liquid is an extract of the jasmine flower, which has a unique fragrance that is known to all Thai people. Usually woven by hand into garlands and sold in markets everywhere, the jasmine flower is used to add fresh smell to cars and homes, and it's used in Thai food to add fresh smell to desserts but imparts no flavor.

Product of Thailand. We also offer Durian, Pandan, and Maengda flavors.

Roasted Chile in Soybean Oil "Prik Pao", Mae Pranom
Mae Pranom brand has been around for decades, one of the first food companies offering convenient ready-made chile paste and sauces. They maintain a small product line of traditional products, focusing on the highest quality. We're honored to offer Mae Pranom, especially their sweet chile sauce for chicken which is our favorite.

Roasted chile in soybean oil, also known as "Prik Pao", here called "Thai Chile Paste" by Mae Pranom, is loaded with salty, oily, spicy hot, mildly sour flavor. A key ingredient in tom yum but also delicious in various seafood recipes such as hoy lai ped.

In our next newsletter we're going to be exploring some interesting ways to use Prik Pao. Here we have this high quality product available to you for just $3.69 as encouragement to give it a try, if you haven't already. A Thai food pantry is not complete without it.

Ingredients: 20% vegetable oil, 15% dried shrimp, 10% dried chile, 10% onion, 10% garlic, 10% tamarind, 10% sugar, 10% salt, 5% shrimp paste. Packed in a beautiful glass jar with attractive label. Product of Thailand.

Thai Ketchup, Maxchup
Maxchup brand Thai ketchup is made with fresh ingredients, using all of the finest machinery and hygienic process in a new state-of-the-art facility. Maxchup is sold in modern supermarkets throughout Thailand now, and it's a popular flavor we think you'll enjoy.

Try this on our signature Thai Tom Yum Hotdogs. Also used in this week's street vendor recipe. A bit like mixing regular ketchup with tabasco, but the consistency is nice and thick, and the chile heat is more sharp. Our Thai customers will enjoy this typically with fried eggs (omelet) or fried rice, or pizza. It's also an excellent condiment for french fries, hot dogs, fried chicken, or anything else!

Ingredients: tomato puree, sugar, vinegar, chile. No preservatives, no artificial flavors, no artificial color. Product of Thailand. Our customer Duncan in Overland Park KS sent us this via email: "The Maxchup Thai ketchup is very good. It knocks the french right out of fries. A real winner.".

Product of Thailand.
