Fermented and pickled foods, staples in Thai cuisine, are known to boost the immune system. Our feature recipe Khao Mahk (above) demonstrates how to ferment rice at home, making a wonderful dessert. Our soy sauce is naturally fermented, and our pickled mustard green makes a delicious, wholesome sour soup. Enjoy good food and help your body fight the flu at the same time.
Feature Ingredient: Pickled Mustard Green
Vacuum packed in a modern, sealed package, this is a very high quality product that will be enjoyed by anyone who likes sour Thai mustard green soup (also a common home remedy for someone not feelign well).

Start by boiling a pork or chicken bone in a few (about 4) cups of water. After the bone is cooked, pour the liquid contents of the package into the soup (but don't put the mustard green in yet). Rinse the mustard green separately with fresh water (don't squeeze it, just rinse it off a bit). Cut the mustard green into one inch chunks and put those chunks into the soup. Boil it for a few minutes and taste the delicious sour pickled greens.

You can add 1-2 tbsp soy sauce for taste. Top with fried garlic and serve with jasmine rice.

Also enjoy this in Khao Kha Moo (pork leg on rice).

Ingredients: mustard green, salt, vinegar, sodium metabisulphite, tartrazine, water. Product of Thailand.

Back in Stock: Shing Shang Fish Snack
Here's a snack you won't be able to put down! Taste is fantastic and this variety of fish is perfect for crunchy snack. Delicious sprinkled over a bowl of fresh jasmine rice, or to add crunch to any Thai soup, stir fry or curry. In southern Thailand, villagers call these "shing shang fish" they are about 3-4 inches before boiling and drying shrinks them to 1-2 inches. The fish are then deep fried and seasoned then oven baked for super crispness and crunchiness. These are dry fish, not greasy at all, and very tasty. The fish are known for high calcium and protein. Ingredients: shing shang fish, palm oil, sugar, salt, chile. No additives. Product of Thailand.

Comment from Joe in Brodhead, KY. Do not buy the Shing Shang crispy fish unless you want to become addicted to them! I had to order another item from Importfoods so thought that I'd try a container of Shing Shang. First nibble and they were OK, but now that I'm near the bottom of the jar I can?t stop. The texture is mostly crispy and just a bit chewy. They are sweet and at the same time hot, fish taste, but mild. A really neat snack. This Importfoods order was shipped promptly, as always super well packed. Thanks ImportFoods.

Holiday Concoction
At left is a glass of Thai sweet basil seed drink. It is made by stirring 1/3 cup sugar into 2 cups water or tea (use less sugar as per your taste preference), add 1 tablespoon honey and stir. Then add 4 teaspoons of sweet basil seed.

Within 2-3 minutes the basil seeds expand and look very odd, a bit like tadpoles! We imagine this could be an interesting party drink. But it's also delicious--the seeds become soft with a consistency similar to eating watermelon.

According to Thai tradition, this drink also helps a person lose weight. In Asian stores it's common to see cans of this drink. Now you can make your own. Product of Thailand.
