Bangkok Vendor Offers BBQ Duck, Pork, Noodles and More
This shop's name is "Tien Song Ped Yang", Tien Song is a Chinese name and Ped Yang means BBQ duck. The street-level, open-air restaurant is larger than many of this type, and they offer a wider variety of products than you typically find. Locals in the area say that they can't remember ever not seeing this shop, it's been there at least 30 years, and experience shows in the quality of their food.
Specialties here include honey-flavored duck, crispy pork, red pork, egg noodle soup with wonton, Chinese dumplings, dim sum, fresh milk, coffee and butter toast. Fresh juices include lemonade, orange juice and Hales drinks. There is also a busy charcoal bbq in the front of the shop with sticks of pork satay sizzling most of the day.
A lot of local Thais love this shop because of the milk, as high quality fresh milk is not easy to find in Bangkok. As you eat here you'll see a regular parade of customers coming to buy milk to go. We love this shop for several reasons. For one thing the atmosphere, it's very welcoming and you can see all of the meat being prepared in front which is quite interesting. This shop offers a big selection so there's always something interesting on the butcher block. The floor, chairs, tables and utensils are all very clean. Many of the things served here are inspired from Chinese cooking so it's not a place to find hot and spicy things.
Prices here are very affordable, under $1 for most entrees. The sign on the wall indicates that they sell whole BBQ duck, takeaway, for about $7. We sampled the BBQ red pork and it was perfect, served with a few slices of pickled ginger.
