Sweet Basil Seed Drink
At the left is a glass of Thai sweet basil seed drink. It's delicious--the seeds become soft with a consistency similar to eating watermelon. Also, according to Thai tradition, this drink also helps a person lose weight.
Ingredients
For 4 Person(s)
Ingredients
- 1/3 Cup Sugar
- 2 Cups Water
- 1 Tablespoon Honey
- 4 Teaspoons Sweet Basil Seed
Method for Sweet Basil Seed Drink
It is made by stirring 1/3 cup sugar into 2 cups water (use less sugar as per your taste preference), add 1 tablespoon honey and stir. Then add 4 teaspoons of sweet basil seed. Within 2-3 minutes the basil seeds expand and look very odd, a bit like tadpoles! We imagine this could be an interesting party drink.
In Asian stores it's common to see cans of this drink. Now you can make your own. Product of Thailand. We also sell fresh Thai basil. In a stellar endorsement, Dr Masahiko Matsushita endorsed ImportFood.com basil seed in his weekly health column for the Japanese community in America. We love basil seeds as included in our Thai icecream recipe.

PermalinkAll these years I called them Eye of Newt. They look like little eyeballs and one can astound and amaze one's friends when you call them that.

PermalinkEver since I was a little kid, I've been asking my mom to get me some of it. Now I have it handmade. You can buy basil seeds in your local Cambodian store (CambodiaTown, Long Beach, CA). Even the drink itself cost less than $2.00

PermalinkI just made one of these basil drinks with no sugar coconut milk and instant coffee, I added water basil seeds in a 24 oz cup hand blended it after a couple minutes then added a little bit of canned coconut milk then made some instant coffee and added that, it's really thick and drinking 24 oz of it really fills me up, a great meal replacement, be sure to have some protein with that so your brain works clearly. The coffee gives me a kick to complete the rest of the day, Quite delicious indeed. I'm definitely going to go on it for two weeks and see how much weight I drop... Maybe 3 drinks a day with food if I'm hungry, personally the few drinks that I had so far are definitely satisfying. I could see this easily replacing food... Cheers

PermalinkI brewed an unsweetened green tea and soaked the basil seeds in it. Chilled this mixture, then mixed with pineapple juice. Yummy!
